I currently use iTunes to get video and audio podcasts. Things like Hanselminutes, DL.TV, DotNetRocks, and TekZilla. It just seems like overkill for something as simple as organizing and downloading media files though. It also has strange problems on my Vista Home Premium operating systems when it comes to displaying it's interface.
I downloaded and tried out Juice. The download did not indicate that it was compatible with Vista, so I checked the forums and wiki and did not find anything about Vista. It did not seem to work with Vista. I tried XP compatibility mode, and running it as an Administrator, but no dice. I did not get any real errors, it just did not seem to work right and told me to check a log file for errors. When I looked in the log file, it looked like function calls without anything that I could really understand. I never did "get" the podcast directory interface either - there was a list there - I could see it - but clicking, double clicking, etc did not seem to do anything. Anyway, I uninstalled it.
Since Juice could use WinAmp as a player, I thought I'd try it out too. When I lauched it and heard something about a llama's hind quarters, I thought that I was probably not cool enough to use this software. I tried to use the "podcast" feature, but it required you to put the URL of the podcast in there to subscribe to it. iTunes got me spoiled with it's already existing directory of just about any podcast that I have wanted to subscribe to, so going back to entering URLs manually was... um ... going back ... and I really don't want to go back. Anyway, I gave WinAmp the boot also.
I used to use RSSBandit for RSS feeds, but it didn't seem to have a very good pod catching interface. Maybe I'll try it again.
For now, it seems like I'm going to keep looking. If anyone has any suggestions for something better than iTunes, I'd be glad to try it out.
